“I’m trying to avoid your wrath.”
That’s what my son said to me last night. You see, I went on a mom rampage. What’s a “mom rampage”, you ask? It’s where you deal with those things that you say to your children over & over & over.
Last night it was the lack of clearing dishes from the dinner table and the lack of taking items up the stairs that sent me into my mom rampage. That’s not too much to ask, right?
Nothing really happened and no child was punished, but my “mom tone” was definitely in use at the lack of obedience. Once the “mom tone” is in use, miraculously, things get picked up so very quickly!
When I made my way upstairs, I found my son on his bed tucked up into his covers. I asked him what he was doing and he answered, “I’m trying to avoid your wrath.”
Smart kid.
Lying low was a good choice. 🙂
I asked him how many times I’ve reminded him about clearing dishes and carrying things upstairs. He replied, “about a million”. Yep, seems about right to me. We cuddled and said prayers and ended the evening on a good note. I love that kid and no amount of disobedience will ever change my love for him.
Man, that’s exactly how God’s love works for us, isn’t it? He loves us no matter what. He sent His Son to die for us & take the punishment for our sins, even with knowing the sins we would commit.
But, we can’t hide from God or His wrath, can we? This reminds me of a picture I have in my Precious Moments bible from when I was a little girl:
I think I have every one of those pictures sealed in my head, especially this one. I knew early on that I could hide nothing from God. He sees all and no amount of avoiding can get me out of that fact. He sees my good. He sees my bad. He sees my ugly. And He loves me still.
Since I am a born-again Christian, He has forgiven my sins. Without this fact, I would not be able to bear the burden of my sins. There are many. Yet, He has forgiven them and separated them as far as the east is from the west.
“He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:12
Do you seek to unleash the burden of your sin? Precious one, don’t carry it around anymore. Surrender to the Lord. Trust me, you won’t regret it. After all, He already knows what we’ve done. Might as well go ahead & confess. You’ll feel so much better and your heavenly Father will rejoice with you over your freedom from the punishment of your sins.
Lord, forgive me. I make mistakes every single day. Every single hour. Sometimes, in every minute. Lord, I know that Jesus has paid my sin-debt. Thank you for this incredible gift. Thank you that your mercy is new every morning, because you know I need it. Thank you for seeing my all and loving me still. Your love is amazing. The amount of your love is sometimes so very hard to understand. How you can forgive a sinner such as myself is indescribable. Lord, help me to live like you want me to live. Help me to be kingdom-focused. Please, Lord, help me to know Your will for the rest of my day today, and then to do it. Make me bold for you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
“The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘Therefore I have hope in Him.’
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.”
Lamentations 3:22-25
