Samuel had the great task of being a mediator of sorts between God and the Israelites.  (This is because Samuel lived during the time of the Old Testament, before Christ, before the Holy Spirit indwells in followers of Jesus, like the Spirit does today.)   Yesterday, I read his message to the Israelites found in 1 Samuel 12:14-16:

14 If you will fear the Lord and serve Him, and listen to His voice and not rebel against the command of the Lord, then both you and also the king who reigns over you will follow the Lord your God. 15 If you will not listen to the voice of the Lord, but rebel against the command of the Lord, then the hand of the Lord will be against you, as it was against your fathers. 

It’s a clear message to the Israelites:

  • If you fear, serve, listen, and don’t rebel against the Lord’s commands, you & your king will follow the Lord your God.  In other words, the Lord will lead them, go ahead of them, forge a path, like He had been doing.
  • If you do not listen and rebel against the Lord’s commands, the hand of the Lord will be against you.

This seems pretty clear & cut to me; how about you?  If you were the Israelites, which path would you choose?

Samuel ends this part of his message encouraging the people to take their stand and then watch. Watch & see what GREAT thing the Lord was going to do before their eyes.

16 Even now, take your stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes.

If you have chosen a path like the second path Samuel described, and you are not following the Lord, it’s not too late to switch paths.  Switch.  Then, watch and see what the Lord will do before your very eyes.  Allow Him to forge a path for you, then follow in it.  Trust me, you won’t regret it.
